La première édition de mon ouvrage sur le Montagne des Pyrénées est parue en 2016. Pendant les 7 années suivantes j’ai poursuivi mes recherches, mes lectures, mes expériences et j’ai rédigé des études de cas, et fait des synthèses des rencontres et témoignages concernant les chiens nés sur ma ferme. Ces 7 années ont continué à enrichir ma compréhension des chiens de protection que je fréquente au quotidien depuis 23 ans maintenant.

La deuxième édition de cet ouvrage destiné aux bergers, aux éleveurs et aux particuliers possédant un Montagne des Pyrénées a été considérablement augmentée avec 516 pages et 480 photos, c’est l’ouvrage en Français le plus important jamais produit sur les chiens de protection et le Montagne des Pyrénées.

Il rassemble des expériences, des témoignages et des recherches sur ces chiens communément appelés « patous ». Il présente un mode de vie et un mode d’emploi des chiens de protection réalisé par un passionné du troupeau qui vit avec eux, jour et nuit, depuis plus de vingt ans. Du chiot nouveau né au vieux chien vous découvrirez comment prendre bien soin de vos compagnons.

À travers ma pratique d’éleveur-sélectionneur et d’utilisateur de Montagne des Pyrénées au travail, je rends hommage à ces chiens qui protègent les troupeaux et leurs bergers depuis la nuit des temps. Cet ouvrage vous apporte des informations pratiques concernant l’élevage, la sélection et l’utilisation de ces extraordinaires chiens de protection.

Ce livre s’adresse également aux particuliers et passionnés du Montagne des Pyrénées. Il leur permettra de mieux comprendre le fonctionnement de leur chien afin de lui offrir une vie épanouissante et bien remplie.

Mathieu Mauriès est éleveur de Montagne des Pyrénées et Paysan. Chercheur indépendant spécialiste de l’élevage, il a réalisé, avant de s’installer comme Paysan, une carrière de scientifique dans l’enseignement supérieur et la recherche en zootechnie. Riche de nombreuses années d’expérience et de terrain acquises en France, au Canada et aux États-Unis, il poursuit depuis 30 ans ses recherches sur les chiens de protection. La génétique de son élevage est présente sur tout le territoire français et à l’étranger, en Suisse, Belgique, Espagne, Allemagne, Italie, Hollande, Finlande, Norvège, République tchèque, Estonie, Russie et États-Unis.

Mathieu sera présent à la librairie Pyrénéiste à Argelès-Gazost le 15 septembre 2023 de 10 heures à 16 heures afin de dédicacer son ouvrage et de partager avec les passionnés de Montagne des Pyrénées, avant les deux grandes manifestations canines du samedi 16 et du dimanche 17 septembre 2023 où vous pourrez également le rencontrer.

Il sera aussi présent au Salon du Livre Pyrénéen à Bagnères-de-Bigorre les 7 & 8 octobre 2023.

Le livre est au tarif de 45 € TTC à la Librairie Pyrénéiste qui en a l’exclusivité pour la France.

Pour le commander sur mon site il est au tarif unique de 55 € pour la France et les pays étrangers. Compte tenu de son poids (1,4 kg) les frais de poste sont malheureusement eux aussi très élevés.

The first edition of my book on the Working Pyrenean Mountain Dog was published in 2016. For the next seven years I continued my research, my readings and my experiences. I wrote case studies, and made summaries of the meetings and testimonies concerning the dogs born on my farm. These seven years have continued to enrich my understanding of the Livestock Guardian Dogs that I have been working with every day for the last 23 years.

The second edition of this book for shepherds, breeders and families living with a Pyrenean Mountain Dog has been significantly increased with 516 pages and 480 photographs. It is the most important French book ever produced on Livestock Guardian Dogs and the Pyrenean Mountain Dog.

It brings together experiences, testimonies and research on these dogs who are commonly called «patous» in France. It presents a way of life and a guide to the work of Livestock Guardian Dogs, realized by my passion for the herd that I have been living with day and night for more than twenty years. From the newborn puppy to the old dog you will discover how to take good care of your companions.

Through my practice as a breeder and the utilization of the Pyrenean Mountain Dog at work, I pay tribute to these Livestock Guardians that have protected herds and their shepherds since the dawn of time. This book provides you with practical information about breeding, selection and the use of these extraordinary protection dogs.

This book is also for families and enthusiasts of the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. It will allow them to better understand the function of their dog in order to offer him a fulfilling and happy life.

Dr Mathieu Mauriès is a Pyrenean Mountain Dog breeder and farmer. He is an independent researcher specializing in livestock farming. Before settling as a farmer, he pursued a career as a scientist within the University of Animal Science Research. With many years experience acquired in France, Canada and the United States, he has continued his research on Livestock Guardian Dogs for 30 years. The genetics of his breeding is present throughout the French territory and abroad; in Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Italy, Holland, Finland, Norway, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Russia and the United States.

Mathieu will be present at the Pyrenean bookshop in Argelès-Gazost on September 15th 2023 from 10 am to 4 pm to sign his book and share it with the enthusiasts of the Pyrenean Mountain Dog prior to the National Elevage Pyrenean 2 day dog event in the park on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September 2023.
